These ‘pretiola’, or Latin for “little rewards”, are rumored to have been invented by an Italian monk as a reward to children for memorizing scriptures – although German folklore has them being invented by desperate German bakers.  Little rewards or not, I prefer the ones the my ‘Auntie Anne’ makes down at the local strip mall.  She never gives me the family discount though, and that’s why I stopped buying her Arbor Day presents.  Get your own trees, Anne.
