Galileo Galilei, or simply Galileo.

Galileo was, quite simply, one of the most brilliant people of not the time he lived, but of all time.  He not only confirmed the phases of Venus via telescope in 1610, but was brave enough to go against the church and publicly claim that the Earth was not the center of the universe.  For his heresy, he spent the rest of his life under house arrest.  Although it probably was a really, really nice house.

Party animal? You bet. For a good time, call: Galileo of Tuscany, Italy.
