First described on video during the TV show Smallville, Mark Waid’s 2004 series Superman: Birthright is where the history of the Superman “S” symbol was rewritten (or more so, redescribed) as a coat of arms for the El family and as the Kryptonian symbol for hope.  I think it was also the same symbol on the cans of the ultra-popular Krypton beer, “Krypton Phantom Zone Pale Ale”.

Goes down smooth and makes humans invincible. Well they feel invincible, anyway.
