Peristalsis not only happens in the large intestines, but in the small intestines and, gasp, the esophagus.  Here, check it: next time you chow down on a bowl of Cap’n Crunch, stand on your head.  As you swallow, you’ll still feel the bolus (mass of chewed food) still go “down” your esophagus thanks to your friend, peristalsis.  And yes, it will work with your chewed granola too, hippie.

I hope nothing I ate pops out of here this morning. I don’t think that’s peristalsis. I think that’s “Alien”.
