Those crafty Dutch did more than give us wooden shoes, windmills, and little boys sticking their fingers into dikes – they gave us sweet orange carrots!  Prior to the 17th century, carrots were purple.  The Dutch used a purple carrot mutation to crossbreed a new strain of larger orange carrots that had a much sweeter taste.  You know, a mutation – kinda like what happened to Carrot Top.

Were the Dutch responsible for this mutation too? The world may never know.
