Hardtack.

These biscuits are made from flour, water, and – if you were lucky – salt.  They were hard as rocks because they soften as they are exposed to the elements.  They were easily stored, but according to my pirate sources, were not very tasty.  Be tee dubs, my pirate sources are the internet.

This is hardtack from 1784. Probably still as fresh as the day it was made. Bleh.
