It is most famous for having been lost in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D.,  which buried it in superheated pyroclastic material.  If you’re wondering what superheated pyroclastic material is, think about what it would mean in the original Greek root words: “broken fire”.  Read that as “very hard to breathe and have sitting on your head”.

This is a former citizen of Herculaneum sleeping peacefully many years after a horrible, fiery death at the hands of a rogue volcano. Although, I think every volcano is a rogue volcano.
